Many online poker sites add and drop players with a reasonable amount of frequency, but it is more noticeable with sites that maintain a small but visible roster, like Bodog. At one point, Bodog Poker boasted of such names as David Williams, Evelyn Ng, Jean-Robert Bellande, and Justin Bonomo, but the latter two were dropped in late 2009/early 2010, and now Williams has been dropped from the site’s list of players. Remaining are Ng and a new online pro named Amanda Musumeci.Williams did reach a point in his career that produced few results. When registration came to a close at the end of level eight today at the World Poker Tour Championship at Bellagio, the final size of the field was just 195 players. This was the lowest turnout for the championship event of the WPT season since 111 players competed in this event during season I. Last year the field size was 338 players. The total prize pool generated by this year’s event was $4,728,750. The top 18 will finish in the money and the eventual champion will win $1,530,537. Phil Ivey clearly makes a very decent living from high stakes games.
While it’s a busy time for live poker events throughout Australasia, the online poker world continues to kick along with Full Tilt Poker’s FTOPS in full swing, and we’re please to report that the Aussies are making a huge impression on the virtual felt as Australian Michael “m_hawk_1” Hawkins claimed a victory in FTOPS Event #18. The tournament was a $216 buy-in “Cashout” tournament, meaning that players could cash out a portion of their chips in for money during the tournament. Hawkins won the title and the FTOPS Jersey, but had to settle for second place in the amount of money cashed, due to the third place finisher cashing out $44,000 before the beginning of the final table.

Will he do it? Since the poker boom, there has never been so much anticipation regarding one player and one final table. But as Phil Ivey looks to complete an incredible World Series, the poker community will eagerly watch to see if he will add the finishing touches to a magical WSOP run. Although he enters the World Series of Poker main-event final table just seventh in chips, Ivey is the overwhelming favorite in the fans’ minds. A WSOP poll showed that 78 percent of fans expected him to come back and win. Some bookmakers only give two players better odds — chip leader Darvin Moon and Eric Buchman, who is second in chips — despite the fact that six people come into the final table with bigger stacks than him.

If 700 players showed up to play in one of the Deep Stack Extravaganza events this month, could the Venetian accommodate them? “Absolutely,” answered Kathy Raymond, the director of poker operations for the casino. The Venetian’s fourth and final Deep Stack series of the year begins today with a $340 tournament at 12 p.m. As has become tradition with the November series, all of the 24 events will be no-limit hold’em.
