European players have done exceptionally well at WSOP 2009. If take a look at per-player statistics from this year, Europe leads the way in all fronts.

During the final table of WSOP Main Event in 2008, there was much talk from a lot of poker commentators about the "European Invasion" in the WSOP. Judging by the official statistics from 2009, the European players have definitely made their mark in the tournament that has traditionally been the domain of Americans.

If we take a cursory glance at the official WSOP statistics, it would seem that the Americans are still leading in every aspect.  However, if we take a closer look at the numbers, details of the much vaunted  "European Invasion" begin to emerge. The performance of European player’s when taken individually, far outstrip those of their American counterparts. The combined totals that are available on the WSOP’s official website do not tell the whole story.

Firstly, if we take a look at the average amount of winnings per player, the American’s took home on average $3,688.55 each. This number is dwarfed by the average winnings of $51,973.29 achieved by the 75 Russian entrants. The 49 Finns won $36,039.18 on average, while the 74 Swedes won $17,141.82 each. The United Kingdom ($8,311.22) and Germany ($10,432) who had 432 and 248 participants respectively also performed extremely well.
